What is DISC?
Most of us have taken a personality quiz at some point and forgotten the answer by lunch. DISC is simpler than that. It is a way to describe how people tend to communicate, act, and work with others. It does not put you in a box.
DISC has four styles. Each of us has all four in some amount, and most people lean on one or two more than the others.
Dominant
Direct, decisive, results-driven.
Influencing
Outgoing, optimistic, people-first.
Steady
Patient, dependable, team-minded.
Conscientious
Careful, precise, quality-focused. Some tools call this style "Compliant."
What DISC is not
DISC describes tendencies. It is not a test you pass or fail. It is not a medical or psychological diagnosis. It does not measure intelligence, skill, or character, and it does not tell you how well you will do in a job. Think of it as a mirror and a conversation starter, not a verdict.
An example (made up for this page)
Imagine a team lead who leans toward D. She likes quick decisions and short meetings. Her teammate leans toward S and likes to talk through a plan before he commits. Neither is wrong. Once she knows her style and his, she can give him a day to think before she asks for a yes. That is the whole idea.
Where to go from here
A DISC assessment gives you a report about your own style. Reading it on your own is useful. Talking it through with a DISC consultant for 30 minutes is more useful. You can read about the call on our review call page or see the offer on the home page.
